Tascam Fw 1884 Drivers

I'm looking into buying one of those 2, but I would like to have your opinions. The Digi 002 looks good, but from what I read, it seems very plastic and I dont think you add more faders in the futur. On the other hand the Tascam as less look, but it looks very well built and you can add faders to the console and it as motorized faders. The only downside of the Tascam I can see is the customer support does'nt seems to be very good.
I just don't want to buy a Digi 002 just because its Digidesign. Anyway I think the Tascam is compatible with ProTools.

Nov 01, 2013 I have an older piece of equipment.Tascam FW-1884.control interface that requires the (legacy) driver that was available in Windows 7. Stupid Tascam stopped supporting their piece of equipment under Windows 8. Any help would be appreciated. BTW, I have the 64-bit ver. I called tascam and got no help from them, apple was stumped too. Eventually I found out the problem was within the Fire Wire buses. The FW-1448 doesn't like converting from Fire Wire 800 to Fire Wire 400. After installing a Fire Wire 400 port on my Mac Pro I've found the Tascam will work around 50% of. Driver v1.30 or higher to be installed first! Firmware updater for Mac users is included with the appropriate driver installer.

Tascam Foot Dragging

Since I've had the approved release candidate for vista for some time (through MSDN), and have a 64-bit motherboard that doesn't work with XP-64 but will with Vista, I've been very aggressive in trying to get these drivers.

The drivers are actually produced by Frontier, which licensed some of their technology to Tascam. When I last talked with Frontier (late Dec, 2006), Tascam hadn't even given them the contract to develop the drivers yet.

Tascam's position is since it hasn't been officially released, its not a problem. We like Tascam's products and have a lot of them around here, but their foot dragging on new drivers is shortsighted, since a lot of us are running systems with lots of memory-hungry virtual synths and we're already at the wall with the 3 GB limit.

Its not like there's some question whether or not Vista will be released, or that a lot of us will adopt it ASAP. Now that Vista is officially official, perhaps Tascam has or will soon issue the contract for the driver to be produced.

I'm running EWQLSO and Symphonic Choirs under Sonar 6, and I'm spending more time arranging memory than music.
