TransCAD includes sophisticated GIS features such as polygon overlay, buffering, and geocoding, and has an open system architecture that supports data sharing on local- and wide-area networks. TransCAD is the only software package that fully integrates GIS with demand modeling and logistics functionality. Students will use TransCAD 4.5 in this class to gain hands-on experience with GIS-T software. ArcGIS 8.3 and ArcView 3.2 also will be demonstrated in class with respect to their transportation-related functions. The main course objective is to prepare students with a better understanding of selected transportation topics and GIS-T concepts. The model is run from the TransCAD software platform through a customized user interface. This interface provides access to custom calculations developed specifically for San Antonio area. Scenario and file management is achieved through a scenario management system integrated into. Standard TransCAD Gravity Model software version 4.5 was used in the trip distribution modeling process. Based on the Transcad all-or-nothing assignment model is a kind of static method; do not consider the travel time will be affected by traffic flow. The insufficient is that it does not conform to reality. In order to solve the all-or-nothing assignment model that to putting all of traffic flow on the shortest path, the text through the defining of the effective path and the traffic flow of the effective path to improve all-or-nothing assignment model. So the other road traffic flow can also assign and the results can reflect the assignment of urban traffic directly. It can be used to study the dynamic traffic assignment and traffic simulation analysis.
